Posted by Webmaster in : Club News , add a commentMorris Maloney has outfitted one of his planes with a live video feed from the cockpit, and here’s a video he put together of his maiden flight over CORCS… He has video goggles which display the live feed as he is flying, enabling him to fly completely via video. Simply amazing!

This may be old news to some of you, but “One Six Right” is a great independent film that all aviation enthusiasts should see. This documentary tells the story of aviation through the eyes of the local airport, in this case Van Nuys, California and features some of the most beautiful flying footage ever produced.
Highly recommended!
The synopsis:
One Six Right looks at the unsung hero of aviation—the local airport—through the life, history and struggle of an airport icon: Southern California’s Van Nuys Airport. Through aerial sequences and stories told by passionate pilots, air traffic controllers, historians and flight enthusiasts, including well-known faces such as Sydney Pollack, Lorenzo Lamas, Paul Moyer, Hal Fishman, Desiree Horton and many others. The film uncovers the history of the airport where Amelia Earhart broke a world speed record over its runways, and where Marilyn Monroe was discovered while working in its hangars; scenes from Casablanca were filmed on the grounds.
A historical perspective of primitive airplanes from the 1920s to the state-of-the-art business jets of today frames appreciation for the significance of all general aviation airports as a critical component of the communities they serve. Located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, VNY is today the world’s busiest general aviation airport and contributes over $1 billion each year to the southern California economy.
One Six Right explores common misconceptions about general aviation airports, which are often criticized for noise pollution and viewed as exclusive playgrounds for the rich. The film creates an awareness of the threat to these community airports through staggering statistics of airports that no longer exist, and the rapid rate at which they are continuing to close: one per week in the U.S. These smaller and often forgotten airports are the foundation of the aviation industry, contributing to global commerce and the breeding ground of the pilots of tomorrow.
New Sign Proposal Posted: February 20, 2008

Here is the proposed design for the new sign that Philip DelNero is building for the club.
Things to note, from Phil:
1. These are not necessarily the colors we would use, it is only intended to create contrast between the components making up the sign.
2. The CORCS logo will be seen from both sides and the area of the frame will be 38″ tall by 36″ wide (tip of Heli rotor to bottom of CORCS steel frame).

Futaba FASST Service Advisory Posted: February 14, 2008
Posted by Webmaster in : Club News , add a commentHere is a very important advisory for any club members who are flying with the new Futaba FASST 2.4GHz spread spectrum systems. Be aware that if your transmitter is affected your radio link could be compromised by another user with an affected Futaba FASST transmitter and cause a complete loss of control of aircraft.
According to Futaba, Mike’s Models in OKC has a testing station available.
Futaba 6EX, 7C and TM-7 Service Advisory

This service advisory affects only owners of the Futaba TM-7 module and 6EX and 7C FASST systems. Each FASST transmitter contains a unique eight digit identification code, programmed at the factory to identify the respective transmitter and to allow a receiver to be paired only to that radio’s signal. Recently we have learned that a very small number of the TM-7 modules, and 6EX and 7C FASST systems were incorrectly coded with a common code number during the manufacturing process. These units were subsequently sold prior to our awareness of the situation.
If two or more units, utilizing this common identification code, were to be in use simultaneously, they may cause interference with one another. Please note: Units which utilize the correct identification code will not be affected by these units.

Jerry Church is sick tonight so there will be no treasurer’s report.
Wayne had heard from Hayk Terzyan that he would like to see some loosely organized competitions at the field this year, fun fly events and the like. Think about what events you might like to see and report back next month.
To have the Memorial Day Air Show or not… Does the club want to host an air show this year? Is it worth the work? Are there enough volunteers to make it worthwhile? If you feel strongly about this either way, please contact President Wayne at wshal@usa.net.
Tables falling into disrepair: Wayne would like to fix some of the tables and their rotting table tops. Doc proposes to look into different table designs to see if it would be worthwhile to replace them rather than repair them. His report is expected next month.
Philip DelNero will donate the workmanship and materials to fabricate a new sign for the club to put along Jenkins. He will come up with some sample renderings and we will display them on the website for feedback.
Jim Traw reminds us that a couple of members will be flying in a pattern competition at the Tulsa Glue Dobbers, coming up in March or May.
Model of the Month: Jerry Short wins again, this time with his Nitroplanes BobCat, pushed along with a Saito 30. He said the instructions for assembly were practically non-existant but it’s a good flyer.
Show & Tell: John Harwell brought out his super nice Satio 300 5-cylinder radial engine. It is NIB and has never been run, but he hopes to put it to use someday, if he lives long enough to retire.

- Have a 8 foot old timer, a Kloud King, includes pushrods, wheels… I flew it with electric but should fly fine with 40 to 60 glow. $100.Docile, easy flying big bird.Very light weight.
