As reported by our treasurer, income this month had increased by nearly $700 from member dues paid. Currently there are 26 active members and that number will continue to grow quickly as the warmer weather approaches.

We showed several videos during the latter half of the hour which included a Boeing 737 Business Jet on takeoff, a PowerPoint presentation entitled “Eye Candy for Aviators” and a very entertaining five minute video of a jet-powered, radio-controlled SR-71 from takeoff to landing.

The Model of the Month went to Jerry Short for his SIG Midstar with a Fox 40.

First, the president of CORCS, Wayne Shalamunec, wanted to remind everyone about this year’s dues and to encourage all outstanding members to please have them paid by the middle of February.

Next, treasurer Jerry Church went over the current finances for the month. There was only one expense for annual maintenance of the CORCS web site. Except for a few payments submitted during the meeting, no income was received.

Then, Wayne asked our members for new and exciting ideas for this year’s events. (Those who were unable to attend and would like to participate may do so using the comment section of this page. We look forward to your ideas!) Here are some of the suggestions so far:

Evening/Night Flight

Bi-Wing Flight (any type of bi-wing aircraft)

Field trip to Stafford Air & Space Center in Weatherford

Guest speaker to present the history of radio-controlled flying

Finally, the Model of the Month went to James Farris and Thomas Wood for their joint collaboration on a Tiger 60.

Jim Farris & Tom Wood proudly display their Tiger 60.
President Wayne is stuck at home with a broken down truck and cannot attend.

Vice President Mark Williams will lead the meeting.

Secretary’s Report: Jerry Church – $xxxx in checking, $xxxx in C/D, same as last month. 61 paid members.

Field Manager Report: Gilbert Cano – Work was done to fix a some of the posts around the parking area and new gravel was spread along the drive.

Safety Report: Re-emphasize the need to call out our intentions to land/take off due to the increased number of flyers at the field. Also, remember to stand at one of the marked pilot stations when flying. We have gotten too casual about these safety issues and need to be make a concerted effort to lead by example.

Float fly for May 16 rescheduled to May 17 for hopefully more favorable conditions, weather permitting.

Gordon has offered to do some work to rearrange the north end of the field to better accommodate helicopter flying. He plans to add some fence posts and wants to change the mowing pattern to give heli pilots more room in that area.

Model of the Month – Jim Farris wins for his twin electric PBY Catalina.

47 paid members to date

Pins made for all but 6 at this point.

President Wayne Shalamunec (wshal@usa.net)

Discussion about the Air Show: With so many members out of town on Memorial Day weekend for various other activities, it has become hard to get enough volunteers to share the work load of prepping for the air show. Motion made and approved to replace the Memorial Day Air Show with a fun fly event on a different weekend TBA.

Discussed Philip’s proposed new sign. Much input from members in attendance was given, ranging from where to put the sign, the layout of the sign, but most discussion was concerning the size of the sign. After lengthy discussion a motion was made and approved that Wayne and Jerry will take a drawing of the sign to OU for approval and Philip will build a sign a bit larger than originally designed (as large as he can with the materials on hand).

Last month, Rick Page was assigned to look into designs for new steel tables. He reported back this month with a design for a powder coated steel 4×8 table which would cost $300 to construct and install. The idea of wooden starting stands was also discussed. A motion was made and approved to build 2 of the new steel tables to replace the badly damaged tables at the far ends of the pits, and a motion was made and approved for Eric Wenger to replace 2 more table tops with new plywood.

Other news

Jerry Short brought his PBY Catalina which is under construction.
Eric Wenger will be competing in a combat meet this weekend in Forth Worth, TX.
John Harwelll brought some wooden floats he built from an Ikon N West kit. They’re built to fit on a large Beaver he has been building for the last several years.
Eric also brought a Diamond S kit, a 40-powered delta wing that will do about 120mph as is, and up to 180mph with a tuned pipe. Wow!
Dan Weber brought a Top Flite Holy Smoke delta wing that he bought in Wichita last weekend at the swap meet.
Gordon brought a Phase 3 F-16 electric ducted fan which he acquired in a trade from another member. After some modifications and lightening it flies great.

February 13, 2008

Meeting called to order at 7:03 PM

President Wayne Shalamunc (wshal@usa.net):
Jerry Church is sick tonight so there will be no treasurer’s report.

Wayne had heard from Hayk Terzyan that he would like to see some loosely organized competitions at the field this year, fun fly events and the like. Think about what events you might like to see and report back next month.

To have the Memorial Day Air Show or not… Does the club want to host an air show this year? Is it worth the work? Are there enough volunteers to make it worthwhile? If you feel strongly about this either way, please contact President Wayne at wshal@usa.net.

Tables falling into disrepair: Wayne would like to fix some of the tables and their rotting table tops. Doc proposes to look into different table designs to see if it would be worthwhile to replace them rather than repair them. His report is expected next month.

Philip DelNero will donate the workmanship and materials to fabricate a new sign for the club to put along Jenkins. He will come up with some sample renderings and we will display them on the website for feedback.

Jim Traw reminds us that a couple of members will be flying in a pattern competition at the Tulsa Glue Dobbers, coming up in March or May.

Model of the Month: Jerry Short wins again, this time with his Nitroplanes BobCat, pushed along with a Saito 30. He said the instructions for assembly were practically non-existant but it’s a good flyer.

Show & Tell: John Harwell brought out his super nice Satio 300 5-cylinder radial engine. It is NIB and has never been run, but he hopes to put it to use someday, if he lives long enough to retire.

Meeting adjourned at 7:47

Eric Wenger moves that a survey of the field be undertaken to see how it measures up to the AMA’s recommendations and consider potential changes. The motion passes.

Frequencies: Wayne wants to discuss the ban on certain frequencies at CORCS. He would like to do away with the ban and allow people to fly on them. He argues that the banned channels are no more subject to interference than any other of the 72MHz channels and that other channels get “hits” too. The membership in attendance does not agree. A vote is taken to ban more frequencies.

Channels 20-25 are now banned. Channel 47 is also banned after John Harwell lost his J3 Cub on that channel.

Harwell makes a motion that problem frequencies be identified on the frequency board. The motion passes.

Gordon brought his cub, which he estimates to have 1500+ flights. He is rebuilding the fuselage from scale drawings.

Meeting adjourned at 8:03.
