Jim Traw Field – Home of C.O.R.C.S. Posted: June 13, 2010

Posted by Webmaster in : Club News , 2 comments

Our June 9th meeting was actually a celebration of founding member Jim Traw’s 80th birthday complete with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, and birthday cake. During the dedication, emotions appeared to get the better of Jim as the new sign, presented by Wayne and Jerry, was unveiled naming the field in his honor. Flying conditions at the field were pretty good later that afternoon as many planes brought out earlier took to the sky then. Thanks to all the members for coming out and participation during the celebration. It really helped make this a successful and a truly memorable event for Jim!

One hundred shirts and caps from halfway around the world!

New Custom CORCS Caps & Shirts

Yes, it’s true. These fine quality shirts and caps were a very generous donation to the CORCS from our member Habib Sayed who sent them to us all the way from Dubai. (Thank you Habib, they really are great!) The shirts are Royal Queen’s Polo Team, 100% cotton, and are available in a variety of sizes and colors. All shirts and caps have an attractive, embroidered CORCS logo on the front and a sporty www.flycorcs.com on the back. Be sure to contact Wayne Shalamunec or Gordon MacNiven for your shirt and cap so that you, too, can show off your club spirit!

The weather this Sunday, March 14, was partly cloudy, 55 degrees, and winds north at 7-10 mph.

Jerry Church assists Morris Maloney by launching his FunJET with a keychain camera attached to the nose. To see the excellent video of this flight, just click on the picture above or on this link to funjet with keychain camera.

As a veteran of electric planes, new member Dylan Keller preflights his P-51 Mustang which is the first glow-powered plane he’s ever owned.

After a most impressive flight, Dylan brings the plane in for a perfect landing.

Joseph Bishop taxies his trainer to the runway for immediate takeoff.

As reported by our treasurer, income this month had increased by nearly $700 from member dues paid. Currently there are 26 active members and that number will continue to grow quickly as the warmer weather approaches.

We showed several videos during the latter half of the hour which included a Boeing 737 Business Jet on takeoff, a PowerPoint presentation entitled “Eye Candy for Aviators” and a very entertaining five minute video of a jet-powered, radio-controlled SR-71 from takeoff to landing.

The Model of the Month went to Jerry Short for his SIG Midstar with a Fox 40.

First, the president of CORCS, Wayne Shalamunec, wanted to remind everyone about this year’s dues and to encourage all outstanding members to please have them paid by the middle of February.

Next, treasurer Jerry Church went over the current finances for the month. There was only one expense for annual maintenance of the CORCS web site. Except for a few payments submitted during the meeting, no income was received.

Then, Wayne asked our members for new and exciting ideas for this year’s events. (Those who were unable to attend and would like to participate may do so using the comment section of this page. We look forward to your ideas!) Here are some of the suggestions so far:

Finally, the Model of the Month went to James Farris and Thomas Wood for their joint collaboration on a Tiger 60.
